Financial Literacy

Education on money, savings, investments, credit, and debt have been missing from our formal school curriculums and has left many individuals struggling to balance their financial living situations as young adults. Reports from the Treasury Department and other reputable organizations show that more than two-thirds of the American public can't pass a basic financial literacy test. Because of stats like these, many states have now started adopting the financial literacy legislation which ensures that high school seniors will have several credits in Financial Literacy prior to their graduation. This will improve our understanding of how money works and will help adolescents demonstrate healthy financial habits. This same information is needed for those of us who are no longer involved in formally continuing our education but still need these skills and competencies to be productive in life. The financial literacy program that we've developed focuses on interacting with money and monetary institutions to practically apply the lessons through a portfolio project. This project will require learners to think through spending habits and concerns to address their daily needs while documenting their choices and outcomes throughout the duration of the program.
